Mahindra NuvoSport Discontinued Due To Dismal Sales

Mahindra NuvoSport White

Mahindra NuvoSport discontinued owing to poor demand and negligible sales.

The NuvoSport rivalled the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza

Launched in 2016 to replace the Quanto, the Mahindra NuvoSport has been the worst performer in the domestic carmaker’s product lineup for some time now. Finally, Mahindra has pulled the plug on the sub 4-metre SUV that was marketed as an adventure vehicle targeted towards the young generation. In isolation, the NuvoSport was a fairly loaded vehicle with a 6-inch infotainment unit, dual airbags, puddle lamps and the option of an AMT gearbox.

The reason for Mahindra NuvoSport’s failure can be attributed to the fact that the vehicle was essentially a chopped-up Xylo with a blinged-out exterior. Mahindra tried hard to get rid of the utilitarian impression of the Xylo/Quanto with this one but the product simply gave up in front of the cut-throat competition. Monthly sales have been in single digits for the past few months. In 2018, 5 units of the NuvoSport have been sold and there was not even a single taker for the vehicle last month, hinting at ceased production.

Mahindra’s very own TUV300 also hampered sales of the NuvoSport, as it was a much better proposition at a similar price point. Talking of price, the NuvoSport was priced from Rs. 7.85 lakhs to Rs. 10.33 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai), making it merely Rs. 29,000/- cheaper than the TUV300. The 7-seater SUV came powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk engine that produced 100 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. The manufacturer recently launched the elongated version of the TUV300, known as the TUV300 Plus, in India.
