Mahindra is finally planning to launch the Mojo after showing it around 5 years back. The model has been expected for a really long time but the hype has faded now.
Mahindra has been working hard to become a prominent 2-wheeler manufacturer and the company has a slew of models lined up for launch in the coming years. The Indian automaker has been doing good sales in the 4-wheeler segment but isn’t a top player in the 2-wheeler category as competition is very intense. The company has done decently with its scooters and the entry-level commuter, the Centuro has given them some recognition in the motorcycle market. Mahindra plans to launch a new product every 6 months.
Thus in 2015, we will see two new products from Mahindra. In the last 6 months, Mahindra launched the Gusto 110cc scooter which is aimed at entry-level scooter buyers while their next launch is the Mojo motorcycle. Yes, that’s right, after having showcased it in 2010 and multiple times thereafter, Mahindra has confirmed its plans to launch the motorcycle in the next fiscal, April 2015 being the launch month. This was revealed by company officials at the regional launch of the Gusto in Bangalore which we attended earlier this week.
The Mahindra Mojo was showcased in near production guise at the 2014 Auto Expo and is powered by a 295cc single-cylinder engine with output figures believed to be 27 BHP and 25 Nm. The motorcycle is under endurance testing and is being ridden down south to cover more mileage, thereby ensuring reliability. It’s being benchmarked against the KTM Dukes and will compete with the Duke 200. Having some interesting hardware bits, the Mojo 300 is expected to be priced aggressively at Rs. 1.5 lakhs. Mahindra will launch a 160cc motorcycle in the second half of the year.
