As the launch of the Mahindra mini-Xylo approaches, our good friends at Team-BHP have uncovered the details and pictures of the production ready vehicle. Team-BHP was also the first to uncover the production version of the Mahindra XUV500 much before launch. The company has named the mini-Xylo as Mahindra Quanto, which follows Mahindra’s tradition of ending a vehicle’s name with ‘O’ (XUV5OO, Scorpio, Verito, Xylo, Genio, etc). The Thar is the only Mahindra vehicle which doesn’t have a name ending with O.
The Mahindra Quanto measure almost 4-metres in length and thus it will benefit from lower excise duties offered to small car. The spare wheel has been mounted on the tail gate and the Quanto looks decent. While most won’t appreciate the Quanto for its styling, Mahindra has been able to save lots of money by keeping the looks of the Quanto similar to the Xylo. Thus the Quanto will carry a starting price of around Rs. 5-6 lakhs. The vehicle is ready for production and the launch will happen this festive season.
The Mahindra Quanto will be a 7-seater with the third row of seats being side folding type. The windows in the last row are butterfly windows. With all the rows down, there will be absolutely no space for luggage and hence one needs to fold the last row for boot space. Interiors will be the same as the ones found on the facelifted Xylo and Mahindra will offer most of the features on the top end model. Thus the Mahindra Quanto top model will boast of features such as Bluetooth connectivity, reverse parking sensors, 6-spoke alloy wheels, audio controls on steering wheel, dual airbags, ABS and armrest for first two rows.
Mahindra will offer the Quanto with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine. The vehicle will compete with the Premier Rio but if the estimated pricing comes true, than Premier will have a tough time in selling the Rio.
