The highly anticipated MPV from Mahindra finally breaks its cover officially.
Mahindra has finally taken off the cover of its first real MPV, the Marazzo. The design is inspired by Shark like the XUV500 is inspired by a Cheetah. It does look good and ready to compete with the Honda BR-V, Maruti Ertiga and Renault Lodgy, neither of which look too over the top either.
The Mahindra Marazzo comes with a unique set up of body on frame chassis with front-wheel drive architecture and east-west mounted engine. Mahindra says it is designed to fit 8 people who are 6 feet tall. It comes with both 7-seater and 8-seater options. Not only this, it also weighs less than most other big size vehicles that Mahindra has made so far. This has been made possible because of extensive use of aluminium. The MPV has a stylish stance and elements. These include the blacked out headlights, the front grille with chrome bits and the angular fog lamps. The rear too looks equally good and there is a chrome slat running across the boot lid which is something Mahindra does on most of its cars.
The interiors of the base-spec Mahindra Marazzo are fairly simple with fabric seats, manual AC controls and not many features. The top-spec variant, however, gets leather upholstery, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable ORVMs with auto folding feature, cooled glove box and a 7-inch touch infotainment system with haptic with Android Auto support. The dashboard is finished in a dual-tone beige and comes with piano finish at places. The instrument cluster has a multi-information display slotted in between the RPM and the speedometer. A modern touch is provided by the bluish-purple lights surrounding the cluster. It has well-sized numbers and figures which makes it easy to read them.
Safety features on the Mahindra Marazzo are adequate. Dual front airbags, ISOFIX child mounts, all four disc brakes and speed sensitive door locking are standard across the full range. It is available in four variants, M2, M4, M6, and M8. The upper variants additionally get reverse parking sensors while the top-spec variant comes with reverse parking camera and cruise control.
The Mahindra Marazzo is available only in a single engine option. This is a 1.5-litre diesel motor that outputs 123 PS at 3500 RPM and 300 Nm of peak torque at 1600 RPM. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission will be offered when BS6 emission norms will get introduced. Prices for the Mahindra Marazzo start at Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) which is good for the space that the MPV offers.
