The name literally means ‘Shark’ in Spanish and is given because of the shark inspired design of the MPV.
The Mahindra U321 MPV has been doing the rounds for the longest time. Mahindra has finally revealed the official name of the car and it will be called the ‘Marazzo’. This name has been taken from the Spanish language of Basque, which translates into ‘Shark’ in English. The MPV has a shark-inspired design and hence the name.
Mahindra will be offering the Marazzo MPV in seven- and eight-seat configurations and like most other Mahindra cars, the Marazzo will be packed with creature comforts and equipment such as an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control with vents for all three rows, steering-mounted audio controls, projectors with LED DRLs, etc.
The latest MPV will also debut Mahindra’s new 1.5-litre diesel engine which is likely to produce around 121 HP and 300 Nm and will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The company could also offer an automatic transmission on the Marazzo to meet the rising demand for such an option.
The Mahindra Marazzo is also the first car from the manufacturer which has been developed by collaborative engineering by its North American Technical Centre (MNATC) and Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The shark like design language is a collaborative design effort by Pininfarina and Mahindra Design Center.
The MPV is likely to be bigger than the Maruti Ertiga and a bit smaller than the Toyota Innova Crysta. However, Mahindra won’t keep the price as high as the Innova and it is possible that the Marazzo’s price will be marginally higher than the Ertiga’s pricing. Maruti is also going to launch the new generation Ertiga very soon and the MPV segment is going to see a lot of tough rivalry.
