Mahindra has declared its newly launched KUV100 a success. The company says that almost half the bookings that have been received are for the petrol version.
Mahindra is known for understanding the nerve of the average Indian car buyer very proficiently and the company’s products clearly reflect that. The carmaker was able to identify the growing trend of pseudo-SUVs and crossovers very early and is capitalising on that by offering products which are styled as rough and tough vehicles. Thus it’s no surprise that Mahindra’s latest vehicle, the KUV100 has been well appreciated by customers and Mahindra has now declared the vehicle a success by announcing that the car has garnered more than 21,000 bookings in just its first month of launch.
The Mahindra KUV100 was launched on 15th January and has since attracted over 21,000 bookings and 1.75 lakh enquires. Interestingly, Mahindra says that half of the bookings received are for the mFALCON G80 petrol engine, which is the first petrol powertrain developed by the company. In order to meet the rising demand, Mahindra has also decided to increase its production capacity in the coming months. The car currently commands a waiting period of almost three months in showrooms across the country.
Mahindra primarily calls itself an SUV maker and always gives a distinct flair to its vehicle as well as a long gadget list. The same formula has also been applied on the KUV100 as the car gets a high shoulder line and long sweptback headlamps. The KUV100 also gets black plastic cladding on its bumpers and wheel arches, along with a unique rear door handle which is integrated into the C-pillar to give the car an urban, funky and hip look.
The Mahindra KUV100 is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol mFALCON G80 engine which produces 82 BHP of power and a 1.2-litre mFALCON D75 diesel engine which belts out 77 BHP of power. The car comes in either a 5 or a unique 6-seating option with other features such as ISOFIX mounting point, cooled glovebox and a 6-speaker audio system with USB and AUX-in. The Mahindra KUV100 competes with the Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 in the Indian market.
