Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles has formally inaugurated its manufacturing facility in Bangalore today. We were the first to report about the inauguration date last month. The Reva plant is the first plant to have receive platinum rating. The company will produce the Reva NXR at this plant, which has an annual capacity to churn out 30,000 units. Production is set to start soon and the Reva NXR will be launched in September. The 4-seater NXR is technology laden and has a range of 160 kms.
“We firmly believe that the automobile industry is at an inflection point that will re-shape the way we own and use mobility solutions. This change is being driven by rapidly changing customer needs and dramatic advancements in automotive technologies, including the growing influence of electronics and IT in automobile products and solutions,” Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director, Mahindra Group, said.
Mahindra Reva also announced the technologies which will be used in the Reva NXR. This includes ‘Quick2Charge’, which gives a 25 kms range from a 15 minute charge. ‘Car 2 Home’ enables a Reva owner to power his house from the car, something which not be out of place in certain parts of our country. The ‘Sun2Car’ technology is a personal charging unit. It provides free and clear energy for the life of the vehicle. Mahindra might also launch an electric version of the Verito in the future.
