Mahindra to launch a range of new electric SUVs in the near future
Mahindra has revealed detailed insights into its upcoming electric SUV range at the ‘Futurescape’ event held in Cape Town, South Africa. The new EV lineup will include XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 models that were revealed sometime back and also electrified variants of the existing SUVs like Thar.e, Scorpio.e and Bolero.e.
Mahindra will initially source batteries and motors for some of their upcoming EVs from BYD and Valeo, with subsequent models switching to Volkswagen components.
The XUV.e series will be launched first, it will use a rear axle-mounted motor from Valeo, making these models rear-wheel drive only. This motor will produce 170 kW (231 HP) and 380 Nm torque.
The BE 05 and BE 07 models will be launched later. The electric motors sourced from Volkswagen will feature a rear-mounted motor for 2WD models producing 210 kW (286 HP) and 535 Nm torque. 4WD variants will feature an additional front axle motor producing 80 kW (109 HP) and 135 Nm torque. The new batteries will have a higher charging speed with 0-80 percent charge achieved in 30 minutes.
The new electric cars will get 16-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, 3D surround sound and active noise cancellation. The infotainment system will feature multiple 12.3-inch screens. Other features to include 5G connectivity, OTA updates Vehicle-to-X (V2X) capabilities, Level 2 Autonomous driving with cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors.
The Mahindra XUV e8 is scheduled to launch in December 2024. It will be based on the new INGLO skateboard platform and electronic architecture. To be an EV clone of the XUV700. The XUV e9 will be launched in April 2025. It will be a coupe-SUV style model.
The BE 05 will be a completely new EV with coupe SUV design which is scheduled to launch in October 2025 along with BE Rall.e. The more premium BE 07 will be introduced by April 2026.
Mahindra will also electrify its existing ICE models, including the Thar, Scorpio and Bolero. These models will be based on the INGLO skateboard platform, won’t continue with the existing ladder frame chassis. We believe these cars will have a new look while retaining the same DNA. Mahindra has not revealed the launch timelines of these EVs.
