Mahindra e-KUV100, a battery-powered version of the KUV100, has been showcased at the Auto Expo.
Last year, Mahindra & Mahindra had promised to launch an electric variant of its mass-market offerings in India one by one. The domestic UV maker has showcased the Mahindra e-KUV100 at the ongoing Auto Expo in Greater Noida. As the name suggests, this is the electric variant of KUV100 NXT hatchback that is currently sold in petrol and diesel-powered versions. The vehicle, slated to be launched in the market by the end of 2018, is also claimed to be India’s first electric SUV.
Developed by Mahindra Electric, the e-KUV100 shares exterior and interior design with the regular hatchback and imitates to be an SUV with its high ground clearance and raised bodyline. With a range of over 140 kms per charge and 0 to 80% charging time of under 60 minutes through a fast charger, the baby SUV comes across as a fair deal. The car features some minor cosmetic changes such as blue accents on the front grill, quad-projector headlamps, door beading and a weird silver applique on the bootlid that looks totally out of place.
Apart from the ability to detect battery status and driving pattern, it also supports smartphone connectivity, remote diagnostics, cabin pre-cooling, real-time tracking and battery health feature. The vehicle uses an electric motor that comes mated to an automatic transmission which means that all three front passengers would be at absolute ease in the 6-seater variant. The company also showcased a handful of electric products and concepts including the e2o Nxt, UDO and ATOM.
