Mahindra is possibly looking to launch the e2o in hot weather areas like Rajasthan and is conducting air-conditioning tests on the car.
You read it first on MotorBeam. As the government has finally taken dramatic measures to promote electric and hybrid vehicles with the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) initiative, it now seems Mahindra is going fast track with the aim to expand its electric car the “e2o” across the country in other states. These images were shared by our reader Shubham Shrivastav who caught the e2o test mule in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan sans any camouflage for air conditioning tests under hot conditions.
At present, the Mahindra e2o is available in nine states across the country including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, West Bengal, Gujarat, New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Chattisgarh, and the lack of infrastructure has barred the automaker to launch the electric vehicle in other parts of the country. With an average day temperature of around 42 degrees, Jaisalmer seems to be perfect for testing air-con cooling on the e2o that will consume more power thereby reducing efficiency. However, with hot weather testing under works, Mahindra could ready the e2o as all weather compliant and possibly launch the electric car in Rajasthan among other hot areas in the future.
The pictures show that the Mahindra e2o test mule is no different from the outgoing version and the powertrain will also continue to remain the same. The EV draws power from a 19 kW (25.47 HP) electric motor with 53.9 Nm of torque and uses a 48V maintenance-free lithium-ion battery. The vehicle is capable of a top speed of 81 km/hr and has a range of 120 kms in a single charge under standard conditions. Under the new FAME initiative, the e2o is entitled to receiving incentives and now comes with a starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs for the T2 variant and Rs. 5.32 lakhs for the top-end T2O variant (all-prices, ex-showroom Mumbai).
