Mahindra is working on building an all-new SUV from scratch with an eye on foreign markets. The utility vehicle manufacturer will invest Rs 700-800 crore in the new product that is expected to be out before the next fiscal-end. While naming the product under development as Global SUV, Mahindra feels the new SUV has a market abroad where people are looking for a VFM vehicles. The new SUV will be will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Maharashtra and positioned a notch higher than the flagship Scorpio.
The SUV will be initially launched with a diesel engine with hybrid variants following in at a later stage. The current Scorpio engine is capable of belting out upto 180bhp with ease so the 2.2L mHawk engine is certainly going to be part of the engine line up for this new Mahindra. India would also be a target market for the product. An indicative pricing for the new SUV is around Rs. 10 lakhs.
