Mahindra has silently launched a special edition of its best selling Bolero SUV in the country. The Bolero special edition gets Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) coupled with drum brakes at the rear, which prevents the wheels from locking up in the event of hard braking providing extra stability to the vehicle while stopping. The special edition variant also gets special changes to the exteriors which include a new pearl white paint job from the Scorpio, new decals and blue vision headlamps.
The interiors on the other hand get new European leather upholstery as well as an updated music system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Mechanically, the Bolero Special Edition gets no updates and is offered with the same 2.5-litre m2DiCR diesel engine producing 63 BHP of power and 195 Nm of torque which sends power to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The Bolero is truly an MUV that can practically go anywhere, no questions asked.
ABS is an essential safety feature which should be mandatory on all cars. Mahindra may want to test this feature and its acceptance in the market with this special edition model, before making it a standard feature on the Bolero. The Bolero Special Edition has been limited to only 500 units. The base LX variant of the Bolero is priced at Rs. 6.35 lakhs, while the top end ZLX variant is priced at Rs. 7.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the prices for the special edition variant have not been revealed, expect the variant to be priced at a marginal premium than the top end variant.
