When it comes to signifying a genuine workhorse in the Indian auto market, the Mahindra Bolero is as simple as it gets. Being one of the best selling UVs for years now, the rugged Bolero retained the title of being India’s number one SUV for the ninth consecutive year in the country having sold over 1 lakh units in the 2014-15 financial year. It is also for the fourth consecutive year that the SUV sold over 1 lakh units in the country while featuring on the fifth spot among the top ten selling passenger vehicles in India.

Mahindra stated that the success of the Bolero signifies the confidence customers have in the brand. Launched in 2001, the tough off-roader has been known for its go-anywhere capabilities that make it a popular offering in semi-urban and rural areas. The outgoing model is equipped with the 2.5-litre m2DiCR diesel engine and has been constantly upgraded over the years with new features added to the list. The Bolero has also been the only SUV in the country to feature on the top ten selling vehicles’ list in a pool of hatchbacks and sedans.

For the current financial year, Mahindra is prepping the all new Bolero that will tuck under the 4-metre mark in order to avail the small car excise benefits. The new model will retain the boxy design language from the outgoing model but will get upgraded interiors offering a premium appeal. In terms of powertrain, the 1.5-litre diesel engine will be doing duty under the hood. It is believed that Mahindra will continue to sell the outgoing Bolero alongside the new one and given the popularity of the SUV, expect sales to grow further in the years to come.
