The Mahindra Alturas brings a lot of new features for a SUV and has huge dimensions.
Mahindra’s new Alturas G4 has been launched in India today. Entering a segment of vehicles which has established products like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, the Mahindra Alturas G4 is the latest flagship model produced by the company. In essence, it is the 4th generation of the SsangYong Rexton SUV sold under Mahindra’s banner.
On the outside, the Alturas G4 sports a chrome-laden grille and looks huge. Its dimensions are 4850 mm x 1960 mm x 1845 mm and has a wheelbase of 2865 mm. The Mahindra logo is also embossed on the front grille. The rear design has a simple look paired with the taillights and the vehicle gets 18-inch wheels. The Smart Boot feature automatically opens the rear door when a person is standing next to it without the need to press a button.
The interiors are laden with dual-tone Nappa leather upholstery. The dashboard houses an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with multiple connectivity features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Alturas G4 also comes with ABS with EBD and hill assist features in both variants. It also comes with 9 airbags on the top variant while the lower variant gets only dual front airbags. Other important features include a 360-degree camera, an electric parking brake, automatic headlights, ventilated seats, electric driver’s seat with memory function and automatic wipers.
The hood of the Alturas G4 houses a 2.2-litre diesel engine, capable of generating a power of 178 BHP and a peak torque of 420 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes. Mahindra will not be introducing a petrol engine model or manual transmission in India as of now. Two variants of the Alturas G4 are available- the Alturas G4 2WD and Alturas G4 4WD.
The Alturas G4 offers a fuel efficiency of around 8-10 km/l. The 2WD variant is priced at Rs 26.95 lakhs while the 4WD variant costs Rs. 29.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). The Alturas G4 is being brought to India as a CKD unit from Korea.
