Former Tata design chief Pratap Bose who is credited with designing the carmaker’s latest successful products is likely to head Mahindra’s new global design centre to be set up in the UK.

Officially named Mahindra Advanced Design Europe, or simply put ‘MADE’, the centre will come up in Coventry and further sharpen its product designs, Mahindra had recently stated.

After a 14-year stint Pratap Bose recently resigned from Tata Motors. He was the Vice President (Design) at the Indian auto major.

Tata’s resurgence in the passenger vehicle sector could be partly attributed to Pratap Bose and his design team’s efforts in creating desirable cars that appeal to the young and young at heart. Some of the cars that he helped design include the Altroz, Harrier, Safari and Tiago.

His new role (said to be created specifically for him) at Mahindra would see the Mahindra Design Studio in Mumbai and Pininfarina Design in Turin, Italy report to him.

Of course, the new role is expected to bring with it new challenges for Pratap Bose. He would be expected to help Mahindra come up with futuristic and feasible designs for future electric vehicles the brand will build.

After all, MADE, which Bose is said to be poised to head, will contribute to all future automotive and mobility products including “Born EV SUVs”, apart from being a resource available to Mahindra Group companies, according to Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, Rajesh Jejurikar.

This puts to rest speculations that claimed Bose would head Ola Electric, after the electric mobility company announced it had brought in a few of Tata’s designers to work on its electric car project.
