Maharashtra extends HSRP installation deadline for pre-2019 vehicles to 30th June
The Maharashtra Transport Department has announced a further extension of the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) on vehicles purchased before 1st April, 2019. Vehicle owners now have until 30th June, 2025, to comply with the mandatory requirement.
This marks the second extension of the deadline. Originally scheduled for 31st March, the compliance date was first pushed to 30th April and now has been extended by another two months, offering additional time for vehicle owners to complete the process.
HSRPs are part of a nationwide initiative aimed at improving vehicle security and modernising transport systems. Made from aluminium alloy, the plates incorporate several security features including a chromium-based hologram, a unique laser-etched serial number, and a retro-reflective film bearing the word ‘India’. These features are designed to prevent tampering and deter vehicle theft.
The cost of installing HSRPs has been fixed based on vehicle type. For two-wheelers, the price is Rs. 450, for three-wheelers Rs. 500, and for four-wheelers such as cars, trucks and buses, Rs. 745. These charges are exclusive of GST.
HSRPs were first introduced in 2019 and are now mandatory for all vehicles registered before the implementation date. The initiative also aims to streamline records at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), enhancing traceability and enforcement.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to complete the installation process before the new deadline to avoid potential penalties and ensure compliance with the state’s transport regulations.
