The Suzuki Baleno which has been launched in Japan will be exported from India. The Baleno is the first car to be made in India and then exported to Japan.
The Indian automotive industry as we know was started in the 1980s when the Government of India joined hands with Japanese automaker Suzuki to introduce a small hatchback in India for the masses. Fast-forward forty years and the situation is reversed. The Indian arm of Suzuki now is bigger and more profitable than the parent company itself. Thus it is no surprise that, after all these years, Maruti Suzuki is now a world class manufacturer of high quality cars, which is evident by the launch of the Made in India Suzuki Baleno in Japan today.
In Japan, the Suzuki Baleno will be initially offered with just the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol unit, though the 1.0-litre BoosterJet direct-injection turbo engine variant’s launch has been scheduled for May 13 .The Suzuki Baleno will be exported to around 100 other countries and the Manesar plant of Maruti will be the sole supplier of the car. The car was first showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, and was launched in India on 26th October 2015.
The Baleno has been a resounding success for the company with more than 38,000 units already sold by Maruti in India. It soon became one of the fastest selling Maruti vehicles due to its packed feature list, a peppy engine, great fuel efficiency and the tried and tested service support of Maruti. The car follows a ‘Liquid Flow Design’ strategy with wavy lines and curved elements. The Baleno competes with other well-established rivals namely the Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.
Maruti Suzuki India is currently in a product onslaught mode, with many high profile launches taking place such as the Vitara Brezza and the Ignis. The success of the Baleno, a hatchback which in selected trim levels is more expensive than some 3-box sedans in a sedan-crazy India, has once again proved that whatever Maruti touches, turns gold. The export and subsequent sale of Made in India cars in Japan is being termed as a big milestone for the company.
