The Vespa VX and S scooters are powered by a 125cc motor and are known for the retro Italian styling that sets them apart from the regular offerings in the segment.
Expanding its base in the Indian sub-continent, Piaggio India has opened shop for the retro styled Vespa range of scooters in the neighbouring country of Nepal with prices starting at Nepalese Rs. 2.50 lakhs. This if the first overseas operation for the Italian automaker and includes the Vespa VX and S models that will be produced and exported from its Indian manufacturing facility. Piaggio also announced that D-Lifestyles, a conglomerate of Dev Jyoti Group, will be the official dealer for Vespa in Nepal.
The Piaggio Vespa VX and S use a 125cc 3-valve, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine tuned to produce 10.6 PS of power and 10.6 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT gearbox. The scooter gets a single side arm front suspension and dual shocks at the rear, while braking performance comes from a 200 mm ventilated front disc and a 140 mm drum brake at the rear. The scooter rides on tubeless tyres wrapped around alloy wheels. In terms of aesthetics, the Vespa VX stays true to the original Italian design theme complete with the round headlight, whereas the S version gets a rectangular headlight cluster with fewer chrome parts for a sporty appearance.
Piaggio will be offering the Vespa VX in five colour options including Lime Yellow, Portovenere Green, Dragon Red, Monte Bianco White and Midnight Blue; and the Vespa S in four including Taormina Orange, Monte Bianco White, Dragon Red and Matte Black. Back home, the Italian manufacturer has reportedly planned a host of updates to the existing lineup while there is a 150cc scooter on the way as well, set for launch later this year. The updated models are expected to be launched around the festive season in the country.
