LML Star electric scooter production-ready design revealed, launch soon
Lohia Machines Limited (LML), a prominent name in India’s two-wheeler industry from the 1990s to the early 2000s, is marking a new chapter in its journey with the approval of a design patent for its Star electric scooter. The move follows the brand’s reentry into the spotlight in 2022, when it unveiled the Star e-scooter concept. This patent approval signals LML’s commitment to competing in the fast-growing electric vehicle market.
The LML Star, once a popular scooter model sold between 1997 and 2017, is now being revived as an electric variant in collaboration with Saera Electric Auto Private Limited (SEAPL). The design of the scooter is the result of a partnership with renowned Italian designers, who bring experience from prestigious automotive brands such as Ducati, Ferrari, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
The Star’s new electric version features a maxi-scooter design with a flat floorboard, accented with red detailing under the seat and on the pillion grab handle. The front apron boasts a dual-tone finish, complemented by a Daytime Running Light and a photosensitive headlamp. While more details on the scooter’s performance are yet to be revealed, its design hints at a modern and stylish EV that aims to cater to the growing demand for electric scooters.
In terms of mechanics, the LML Star is equipped with a mid-mounted motor that drives the rear wheel via a belt-drive system. The scooter’s suspension consists of a telescopic fork at the front and a side-mounted monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes on both ends, suggesting a focus on rider safety and control.
The Star will enter a competitive electric scooter market, going up against established players such as Ather Energy and Ola Electric. While performance and pricing details remain undisclosed, LML’s legacy and design pedigree may offer it an edge in attracting both nostalgic buyers and new EV enthusiasts. The brand’s focus on innovative design and its collaboration with industry veterans highlight its ambition to carve out a space in India’s rapidly evolving EV landscape.
As the Indian electric scooter market continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how LML’s Star positions itself against competitors and how it is received by the consumers. The coming months will likely bring more clarity on the scooter’s specifications, features and pricing, which will play a crucial role in determining its success in this competitive segment.
