LML is expanding its two-wheeler business in India once again and is looking for new dealers down south to retail its retro styled scooters and the Freedom commuter bike.
Lohia Machinery Limited, more widely known as ‘LML’ in India has had a varied presence in the domestic two-wheeler market. The Uttar Pradesh based company was at a time one of the front runners in the scooter and entry-level motorcycle segments but could not hold on to its position amidst newer rivals. Today LML exports its retro scooters to Europe that has shown a considerable demand and as of last year, announced its revival in India. Having established a decent presence in the north, the automaker is now looking to expand in the south of India and is calling for dealers.
LML has appointed Rad Motors as its authorised distributor in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The distributor’s website showcases the complete LML lineup that is currently on sale and includes the Star Euro 150cc, Star Euro 200cc and Freedom 110cc commuter motorcycle. The scooter lineup is already popular in Europe for the retro looks that originally come from the Piaggio Vespa, LML’s former partner in the 1980s.
Unlike most scooters currently on sale in the country, the LML scooters get a complete metal body, bigger engines and the old school styling helps them stand out amidst rivals. The Star Euro 150 is the automaker’s entry-level offering and comes with a hydraulic suspension, power indicator, white wall finished wheels and mono paint options. Power comes from a 150.82cc single-cylinder engine producing 9.38 HP of power. The 150 Star Euro is also credited for being India’s first automatic scooter with a complete metal body.
LML currently exports scooters to over 26 nations worldwide but is looking to re-establish its name in the country. At present, the company is accepting invitations for dealerships and promises low investment and expenditure with better margins and yields. The return of the automaker is certainly exciting for its loyal fan base present across India. The Freedom commuter was a strong seller at one time and the company had even roped in actor Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador. Don’t believe us? Check out the over a decade old quirky TVC below.
