We thought the Lancer was gone but Mitsubishi gave it a last chance and with a lot of upgrades. However, none of them are mechanical. The Evo X has already been discontinued in other markets but continues on sale as a 2015 model in the United States. Although the news remains the same that it will be discontinued in 2016, it is set to be replaced with a Porsche 911 rivalling sports car.
All variants of the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution get new heated side view mirrors with turn indicators, cup holder with a lid (so German), automatic climate control, FUSE Hands-Free Link System, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with cruise and audio controls on the steering, a rear diffuser and a spoiler integrated on the boot. The GSR model gets a new premium package which includes leather seats, heated front seats, power glass sunroof and piano-black front console box with lids.
As we told you before, there are no mechanical changes on the Lancer Evolution. The Evo X is powered by the same turbocharged, intercooler equipped 2.0-litre 4-pot engine which is a DOHC unit with 16-valves. It produces 291 horsepower at 6500 RPM and 406 Nm of torque from 4000 RPM. For the GSR variant, the Evo X gets a 5-speed gearbox while the more upmarket MR trim gets a 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission, better known as TC-SST. All models come standard with Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which is Mitsubishi speak for all-wheel drive.
So before Mitsubishi says a final good bye to the Evo X, it needs to have all the small features to last long as owners keep their cars for years. Vehicles like the first generation Lancer still exist with many people as it is the pride and joy of most Mitsubishi enthusiasts. After all, it’s an all-weather car with all-wheel drive which needs to have all-weather comfort for the driver as well! The king is dead, long live the king!
