When Tata Motors started assembling the Land Rover Freelander 2 in India, it reduced the prices for the base SE variant to Rs. 33.89 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Soon rising input costs plagued the company leading to a price hike, resulting in the Freelander 2 SE costing Rs. 35.52 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Now in order to push sales of the entry level Land Rover, the company has reduced the prices of the Freelander 2 SE by Rs. 1.64 lakhs, offering the SUV for an introductory price of Rs. 33.88 lakhs. The Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE is priced at Rs. 40.40 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This pricing won’t stay for a long time as the depreciating Rupee won’t help Tata Motors in sustaining this pricing for long.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine. The base SE variant produces 150 PS of power at 4000 RPM, while the top HSE variant produces 190 PS of power at 3500 RPM. Surprisingly both variants produce 420 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with command shift. The Freelander 2 features Terrain Response System, Cruise Control, Rain Sensing Wipers, Headlamp Washer, Xenon Headlamps, Leather Seats, Sunroof – Electric Sliding Front Glass Roof, Fixed Glass Panoramic Roof, Front and Rear Windscreen Parking Aid. Other than the usual ABS and EBD, the Freelander also features systems like Roll Stability Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Traction Control, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control and Hill Descent Control.
