Lamborghini Urus, the Hyper SUV from this Italian car maker, was the centre of attention at the Audi brand group conference. Earlier, unveiling the design of the production version of the Urus through a set of leaked patented images, the information meted out this time is mainly regarding the materials and construction techniques. Lamborghini, in participation with it’s sub-parent company Audi, have conducted great amount of research on the materials that can be utilized to make the SUV ultra-light. Innovative carbon-fibre and aluminium construction techniques will go in making the Urus shed some weight.
The Lamborghini Urus will be underpinned to the new generation Volkswagen MLB platform. The newer generation MLB platform will make extensive use of light-weight materials as compared to the current version MLB pinned to the Audi A6. A new form of carbon-fibre is heard to be used in the MLB chassis. The construction, in brief, would involve aluminium in the cast, extruded and pressed forms which would be riveted to steel pressed sheets. Another method under research by the Volkswagen group is a mix a of carbon-fibres and resins to be injected into moulds to create components in a matter of few minutes.
Lamborghini claims that the Urus would possess one of the least polluting figures in its class. The performance figures are way too far from disclosure but if Lamborghini wants their SUV to be fastest it would have to be atleast faster than the 4.7 seconds it takes for the BMW X6 M for a 0-100 km/hr run. Engines are expected to be similar to the ones on the Gallardo. Volkswagen Group will probably give the green signal to the production of the Lamborghini Urus within a few months time. Considering the permission given within 2013, the Urus should make it onto the roads by 2016.
