After launching the super sport car in India, Automobili Lamborghini has unveiled the Huracan Performante in Mumbai.
What is bliss? Have you ever felt it? Well, we all might just feel it because very soon, as we might be seeing a few Huracans burning through Indian tarmac. Lamborghini, as we all know, is synonymous with creating cars that push the barriers of speed, performance and agility generation after generation. How then, does such a car, or a manufacturer make any sense in a market like India?
Well, the idea here is very simple. Lamborghini has been one of the most popular brands in India, not by sales but rather by being some or the other person’s “Dream Car”, especially over the past decade and a half. And out of the millions who aspire to own it, even if a fraction end up being able to afford it, Lamborghini would have broken their all-time sales record here in India, which is exactly what happened. Makes sense now, doesn’t it?
Getting to the most important part, the Huracan Performante is the fastest mass production car to lap the Nürburgring, a benchmark of sorts for all competing car makers. At the heart of things is a 5.2-litre V10 powerplant that makes 640 HP and 600 Nm (70% of torque is available at just 1000 RPM!), which is a significant hike from the standard Huracan. Add (or subtract) to that a massive 40 kg weight reduction and what results is a car too fast for most to comprehend with 0-100 km/hr taking just 2.9 seconds, top speed being 325 km/hr.
In order to keep things in order, Lamborghini insists the maximum time and effort has been put into the aerodynamics, which is what allows the supercar to harness all that power to full effect, particularly the front bumper and rear wing providing 750% more downforce. At Rs. 3.97 crores (ex-showroom Delhi), only the most elite will be visiting Lamborghini showrooms for bookings, though.
