Lamborghini Huracan Unveil

Automobili Lamborghini used to sell the Gallardo and the Aventador together until now. The Gallardo was launched originally way back in 2004 and it has seen many special editions like Superleggera, SuperTrofeo Stradale, Noctis, Bicolore, etc. The Aventador, which was launched as a replacement for the Murcielago, is sold in two versions, the Aventador Coupe and Aventador Roadster. Lamborghini managed to get more than 14,000 customers for the Gallardo worldwide and the automaker finally concluded the vehicle’s production recently. The Lamborghini Gallardo is now replaced by the new Lamborghini Huracán.

The Italian manufacturer will be holding 130 private previews in over 60 countries to showcase the Huracán to prospective customers, whereas the vehicle will make a public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Since we all know the fact that Lamborghinis are aggressive raging bulls, it was imminent that Lamborghini would choose a name for the new vehicle which would relate to aggressive bulls. Hence, the name Huracán was chosen, which means bullfighting in Spanish.

Now talking about the design, there are various words that come to people’s minds when they see a Lamborghini. Spaceship? UFO? Batmobile? The list can go on and on. The Huracán has sharp edges and the body is designed with such precision that makes it unmistakably a Lamborghini. You might find a few design cues borrowed from the Aventador or even feel that this is derived from the Gallardo, but make no mistake, the designers and engineers have developed this car right from scratch. It does feature some regular Lamborghini affair like the headlights which are new in design but have a resemblance to the ones on the Aventador. This luxury sports car comes with full LED lighting too.

The interiors of the Gallardo and Aventador made you wonder whether you are sitting in a car or a fighter-jet. Just step inside the Huracán and the feeling is no different. The centre console houses a 12.3-inch screen which has a multi-information display built-in displaying all the necessary information to the driver. You can choose the upholstery from either Fine Nappa leather or Alcantara along with a wide variety of colour options to customise the vehicle to your liking.

It is very common of sports car manufacturers making full use of carbon fibre in their vehicles to decrease the overall weight which then aids driving dynamics. Lamborghini is no different and the automaker used to offer many carbon fibre option packs with the Gallardo and the case is similar here. Lamborghini has made a hybrid chassis using carbon fibre and aluminium parts and hence the total weight of the Huracán is just 1422 kgs which results in an impressive power-to-weight ratio. Powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine which is the same unit as the Audi R8 V10, the Huracán produces a maximum power of 610 BHP along with a maximum torque of 560 Nm. Acceleration is pretty quick and 0-100 km/hr takes just 3.2 seconds with 0-200 km/hr coming in at 9.9 seconds. The Huracán can reach a top speed of 325 km/hr and according to the European driving cycle, it can attain a fuel efficiency of 8 km/l.

The 5.2-litre V10 powerplant is mated to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and the power is delivered to all four wheels. The Huracán comes with different driving modes like STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. All these different modes have different settings for the suspension, gearbox, sound, engine performance and the traction control system. Such a powerful vehicle needs a good amount of stopping power and hence Lamborghini has provided carbon ceramic brakes in the Huracán. The “Lamborghini Dynamic Steering” variable steering ratio system and magneto-rheologic suspension damper control are both available as options for further customisation of the Huracán’s dynamic behaviour. They are also calibrated via the three different dynamic set-ups.

The Huracán promises to be a great sports car and Lamborghini would be having really high expectations from it. The company will begin delivery of the vehicle in 2014, also bringing it to India at the same time, priced upwards of Rs. 2.5 crores.
