KTM acquired Husqvarna AG from BMW in January 2013 and renamed it to Husqvarna Motorcycles GmbH while 48 percent stake in KTM is owned by Bajaj Auto.
KTM is gaining popularity in the Indian market with its performance models, the Duke and RC range of bikes which are produced at the Bajaj-KTM plant in Chakan near Pune where the Austrian automaker is expected to start the production of Husqvarna bikes from 2017.
These Husqvarna models are primarily developed for European markets only as KTM has no immediate plans of launching the brand in India as it itself is not completely established yet. The expected models to go under production in India include the Vitpilen and Svartpilen range.
Husqvarna is owned by KTM as it bought the company from BMW in January 2013 and renamed it from Husqvarna AG to Husqvarna Motorcycles GmbH. Bajaj Auto owns 48 percent stake in KTM while the Chakan plant is jointly owned by both the companies.
KTM recently inaugurated its 9th brand store in Telangana which was the automaker’s 262nd outlet in India, by far the largest for a premium bike brand. The manufacturer aims at introducing 88 more dealerships across the country by next year while it expects to sell 30,000 units in the current fiscal year compared to the 23,000 units in 2014-15.
