Austrian manufacturer KTM is drawing big plans for its operations in the country. Riding high on the success of the Duke 200 and Duke 390 performance models, the company is planning to manufacture bigger engines and will bring more powerful models to the country in the future. KTM is also planning to introduce the 390 Adventure motorcycle in India next year.
The KTM 390 Adventure will be based on the Duke 390 street-fighter version. The motorcycle will sport a stronger and longer suspension, dual-purpose tyres and a larger fuel tank. The 390 Adventure will be powered by the same 373.2cc single-cylinder motor mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle will sport an upright seating position and will be more comfortable for longer distances. Expect the 390 Adventure to take heavy influence from the 1190 Adventure model in terms of design, which the company may introduce in the coming years.
The 390 Adventure will feature ABS as standard and is likely to get a larger tank for a longer range. The adventure model comes at a time when the middle-weight performance motorcycle segment is booming. Moreover, being a made in India model, the KTM 390 Adventure will be priced aggressively, albeit at a slight premium over the Duke 390. We expect KTM to price the motorcycle around Rs. 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched.
KTM this year has two most awaited models coming to the market from its stable. The RC 200 and RC 390 will be launched in the second half of the year. The company is also contemplating a Duke 500 and Adventure models as well as a 790 model added to the lineup. The made in India 500cc and 800cc twin-cylinder engines will power both the vehicles. KTM will also launch the Duke 690 and the maddening flagship 1290 Super Duke R in India in the coming years.
