25th October 2012, the day when the first ever news of the KTM Duke 390 emerged. Exactly eight months later, KTM will have put the dream of many Indian motorcyclists to reality. Yes, 25th June (Tuesday) is the day when KTM will officially launch the Duke 390 in the Indian market. The news is confirmed thanks to the above image which was uploaded on facebook by KTM India. The Duke 390 doesn’t have to land on Indian shores, after all, it’s manufactured here and exported all over the globe.
The KTM 390 Duke is a single-cylinder motorcycle which offers explosive performance. The 373cc motor produces an insane 43 BHP of peak juicy ponies and 35 Nm of pure twisting force, which is enough to propel this light motorcycle to 100 km/hr in 5 odd seconds. Hold on to the saddle tightly and you will see almost 170 km/hr on the speedometer, the 390 Duke is f-a-s-t, there is no denying and it won’t burn a hole in your pocket as the company plans to price it very aggressively.
The Duke 390 shares most of its components with its younger siblings, the Duke 200 and Duke 125, which helps in benefiting from the economies of scale. Prices are not out yet and will only be announced on the day of launch but let’s speculate a bit. The Duke 390 is offered with ABS and if Bajaj Auto offers only one variant, then we can expect the Duke 390’s on-road Mumbai price to be around Rs. 2.25 lakhs. That said, let’s wait and watch, till then it’s time to drool on the pictures below.
