The upcoming KTM 1290 Super Duke RR has been spotted on test abroad sporting no camouflage whatsoever.
Looking ready to be put into production, the hyper naked motorcycle sports lots of carbon fibre bits, for the main premise of its existence is reduced weight.
Based on the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Duke R, which is especially not heavy at 189 kg (dry), the Super Duke RR is said to be about 9 kg lighter. Thus, the finished article will weigh 180 kg (dry), which is mighty impressive.
So, what has changed on the RR then? The model sports plentiful carbon fibre parts, as mentioned above. Now, the tiny flyscreen, front fender, brake ducts and the undertail cover piece for the subframe, all come in carbon fibre. Even the chainguard is said to be made out of carbon fibre, but we cannot be sure about that for now.
In addition to the carbon fibre parts, the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR spotted on test also sports an Akrapovič exhaust system made out of titanium, which is good, for it will make the bike sound nicer, while also not weighing much.
KTM has also used forged aluminium wheels in its pursuit to keep the motorcycle’s weight down. Further, there is no pillion seat on the bike, so forget about carrying a passenger, or come up with an innovative way that does not break road rules.
When it comes to the engine, the Super Duke R’s 1301cc V-twin capable of making 177 HP and 140 Nm will likely stay the same. But, the Mattighofen factory might give it a different tune to make it feel more angrier.
To be limited to only 500 units worldwide, the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR will not be cheap. But, we can bet that there are enough KTM aficionados out there who will be ready to pay the asking price just to have the motor in their possession.
