Smaller wheels reduce weight and make the bike more agile

KTM has taken the 1290 Super Adventure R and fitted it with road-going hardware

KTM is following Ducati’s footsteps and seems to be readying a Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak style 1290 Super Adventure R performance machine.

Instead of the 1290 Super Adventure R’s wire-spoked rims, the model under development had 17-inch alloy wheels and, get this, a brand-new swingarm.

The front wheel seems to have been borrowed from the Super Duke GT and the rear from the Super Adventure S

Further, the test mule also had a carbon-fibre mudguard up front, clearly indicating that the motorcycle is not a parts bin special. Team Orange is serious about this machine then.

Other things that are new include split seats that replace the one-piece jobby in the 1290 Super Adventure R and this model is also set to come with radar-guided cruise control like the ‘S’.

The powertrain should remain the same, with the 1301cc V-twin producing just a shade under 160 BHP and a maximum of 138 Nm of torque, and the suspension appears to be stock as well, but with reduced travel.
