Kinetic Luna electric moped is under development and it is expected to get around 70 to 80 km range per charge.
Currently developed by Kinetic Green (a subsidiary of Kinetic Group), when launched, it will become one of very few mopeds to go on sale in India in the current period and mark the return of the Kinetic name.
The revival of the 50cc moped that was launched back in 1972 will have a lithium-ion battery, a 1 kW electric motor and a top speed of 25 km/hr. Thus, it need not be registered as it comes under the slow-speed category.
To be priced under Rs 50,000/- on-road, the Kinetic Luna electric moped will likely get LED DRLs, USB port and other modern bits, while the design would take inspiration from the old Luna.
To those who are unaware, Kinetic Green is currently into manufacturing electric 3-wheelers, e-rickshaws at present. It has a factory at Ahmednagar in Maharashtra where the 3-wheelers are manufactured.
Although Kinetic Green’s top official has denied having immediate plans to enter the electric 2-wheeler segment, there are signs it might do so soon.
The firm has set up another plant about 30 km away from its 3-wheeler plant, which has fuelled speculations about the brand launching electric 2-wheelers.
The new plant will also be used to make 3-wheelers and the Kinetic Lamborghini Buggy range. Kinetic Green does its own R&D when it comes to developing EVs.
Furthermore, since all the shares of Kinetic Motor Cycles Limited (KMCL) has been sold, Kinetic Green is free to launch 2-wheelers under its own name without any issues.
Mahindra had acquired 80 per cent shares of KMCL back in 2008 and used Kinetic’s facility to manufacture its 2-wheelers.
