Auto components maker Kinetic plans to add SWM bikes to the list of vehicles it sells through its Motoroyale outlets.
Kinetic as an automotive company has come a long way from manufacturing Honda scooters and Luna mopeds to become a respectable components manufacturer. The company also started its new innings in the highly lucrative high performance bike retailing chain in India called Motoroyale, which currently assembles and sells the legendary MV Augusta bikes in India. Now Kinetic is reportedly planning to add another Italian automotive classic name to its Motoroyale portfolio called SWM Motors.
Voices from the industry corridors indicate that Kinetic is planning to bring the recently resurrected SWM brand of Italian street motorcycles via its Motoroyale chain. Kinetic has officially said many times that they would like Motoroyale to be a multi-brand motorcycle chain in India.
After MV Agusta, Kinetic is scouting for more exotic brands to display on its floors as the superbike category in India is currently sitting on a fully-fuelled rocket waiting to be ignited and launched into space-shattering numbers. Around 13,000 superbikes were sold in India in 2015, and the number is expected to touch 20,000 bikes by 2020. It is still a very small portion of the market, as the country sells more than 14 million bikes per year.
SWM motorcycles announced their return at the 2014 EICMA motor show after a hiatus of almost 30 years. The Italian motorcycle brand was founded in 1971 and was in existence till the 1980s. At the motor show, they showcased six street and off-road bikes with engine capacities ranging from 300cc to 650cc.
Kinetic is reportedly thinking to bring over the Gran Milano and Silver Vase models into India. Both these motorcycles are classified under ‘Classics’ by SWM and Gran Milano, the cafe racer version, is powered by a single-cylinder 445.3cc air + oil cooled engine capable of producing 30 PS of power. Interestingly, Kinetic already makes some parts for SWM.
