Kia Syros likely a new micro SUV rivalling Hyundai Exter or a completely new product
Kia Syros name has been trademarked recently in India. The new filing suggests that the South Korean carmaker is readying yet another product for the Indian market. It might be a new micro SUV that rivals Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch and the likes or a completely new product.
Prototype of a new compact SUV is doing the rounds recently in India. The heavily camouflaged test mule is in its initial phase of testing. In terms of design, it looks quite boxy and has simple styling elements. It has an upright posture to make it look more SUVish.
The front profile gets slim LED DRLs positioned on the bumper. It gets a clamshell bonnet and grille design inspired by bigger Kia SUVs sold in the international market. On the side profile it gets quirky alloy wheel design with squarish design elements. The ORVMs are mounted on the doors. There is black cladding running across the lower half of the body to give it a rugged look.
The B-pillar has a unique kink to it and the roof gets high rails that look functional. The rear profile comes with vertically stacked LED tail lights. It gets a flat rear profile to give it a tall look.
Engine details are still unknown. Kia might offer a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor or a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. We can expect both the engines too for different variants combined with both manual and automatic transmission options.
The micro SUV segment is doing big numbers currently in the Indian market and Kia might want to explore the segment with their upcoming product. The Tata Punch is currently holding the top spot in terms of monthly sales since the last two months. The Indian carmaker offers a range of powertrain options like petrol, CNG and electric, which might be the perfect recipe to push the sales. Kia should also consider bringing in multiple powertrain options to reach a wider audience with their entry-level product.
