Kia Syros is available in both petrol & diesel engine options

Kia Syros launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 9 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the base petrol-manual HTK variant. The lineup extends up to Rs. 17.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the top-spec diesel-automatic variant equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Pre-bookings for the vehicle commenced on 3rd January for a token amount of Rs. 25,000, with deliveries expected to begin by mid-February.

Design and Exterior

The Syros draws inspiration from Kia’s global SUV lineup, particularly the EV9 and EV3, incorporating a distinct upright stance and bold styling. The compact SUV, which measures just under four meters in length, sports vertically positioned LED headlamps integrated into the fenders, along with extensive body cladding. Top variants feature eye-catching 17-inch alloy wheels with a tri-petal design.

Key design elements include body-colored B-pillars set between blacked-out A-, C- and D-pillars, a sharply rising window line, flush-fitting door handles, and roof rails. At the rear, the SUV features high-mounted L-shaped LED tail lamps positioned alongside the rear windscreen, while the sculpted bumper incorporates black and silver highlights, along with vertically arranged stop lamps and turn indicators.

Kia offers the Syros in eight exterior color options: Aurora Black Pearl, Frost Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Intense Red, Pewter Olive and Sparkling Silver.

Interior

The cabin of the Syros features a modern and uncluttered dashboard layout. A pair of 12.3-inch screens serve as the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, complemented by a 5-inch screen dedicated to climate control. The two-spoke steering wheel stands out with its off-centre Kia logo, while the dashboard integrates sleek AC vents running across its width. Kia emphasises interior space as a core design element, maximising comfort for passengers.

The SUV comes with an extensive equipment list that includes ventilated seats for all four occupants, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, a powered driver’s seat, an electronic parking brake and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The rear seats feature a reclining and sliding function, along with a 60:40 split-folding configuration and a center armrest.

Safety Features

On the safety front, the Syros is well-equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. The top-tier variant offers a Level 2 ADAS suite, enhancing driver assistance with features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking.

Performance

Kia offers the Syros with two engine choices, both paired with manual and automatic transmission options. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 120 HP and 172 Nm of torque. The diesel version features a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine generating 116 HP and 250 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while the petrol model offers a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and the diesel variant is available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Competition

The Syros enters a competitive segment, rivalling popular compact SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the newly launched Skoda Kylaq. With its aggressive pricing, feature-rich cabin and multiple powertrain options, Kia aims to carve a strong presence in this fast-growing market segment.
