Kia Syros launch expected by 1st February and deliveries to commence by mid-Feb
Kia India has opened bookings for its new compact SUV, the Syros, with a booking amount of Rs. 25,000. Customers can reserve their vehicle online through the Kia India website or by visiting authorised Kia dealerships. The official price announcement for the Syros is scheduled for 1st February, with the top-spec variant expected to be priced at around Rs. 16 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Key Timelines and Availability
- Test Drives: Scheduled to begin by the end of January.
- Public Debut: The Syros will make its first public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Show in New Delhi on 17th January.
- Deliveries: Expected to commence by mid-February.
- Dealership Availability: The Syros will start arriving at Kia dealerships by late January or early February, just before its launch.
The Syros is designed to prioritise practicality and interior space over exterior aesthetics, as highlighted by Kia India’s MD and CEO, Gwanggu Lee, during the SUV’s global debut. Measuring under four meters in length, the Syros benefits from tax incentives available to compact SUVs in this category. Despite its compact dimensions, the SUV’s tall-boy design ensures a spacious cabin.
The Syros boasts dimensions that make it wider, taller, and with a longer wheelbase than the Kia Sonet. Notably, its rear-seat space rivals that of the larger Kia Seltos. Additionally, the Syros offers a sizeable 465-litre boot, which is 20% larger than the Sonet’s.
The Kia Syros will be available in six trims and offer two engine options:
- Petrol: A 1.0-litre turbocharged engine delivering 120 HP and 172 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
- Diesel: A 1.5-litre engine producing 116 HP and 250 Nm of torque, offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Higher-spec variants of the Syros will come with a comprehensive set of features, including:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Dual-tone interiors and leatherette upholstery
- Ambient lighting
- Dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation
- 8-speaker sound system
- Ventilated front and rear seats
- Wireless charging
- Powered driver seats
- 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitoring
- Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
The Syros enters the highly competitive compact SUV segment, going up against models such as the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Kia aims to position the Syros as a practical yet premium option in this space, with features and interior space designed to appeal to urban and family-oriented buyers.
With its combination of practicality, a well-rounded feature set, and competitive pricing, the Kia Syros is poised to make a strong impact in the compact SUV market. All eyes will be on its public debut and subsequent price announcement to see how it fares against its established rivals.
