Kia’s crossover could make a fitting rival for the Maruti S-Cross.
Kia has showcased the Stonic crossover at the Auto Expo. The Stonic is Kia’s crossover which takes on the likes of the Nissan Juke and the Volkswagen T-ROC in the international markets. The Stonic comes with a range of petrol, diesel and electrified powertrain options. The car is praised for being reliable, practical and efficient in the overseas markets.
The Stonic isn’t the newest of Kia cars. It looks traditionally Kia with elements like sharp headlights, the signature grille and the general sense of minimalism throughout. Because it is a crossover, Kia has spruced it up by giving it plastic wheel claddings and the company has made it more youthful with funky roof colors. The interiors also focus on youthfulness. There are colored panels, inserts on the seats and toggle switches. The rest of the cabin is typical of Kia. Well built, simple and very usable. Space is pretty good considering the car’s compact footprint. The backseats also offer good support and decent legroom.
There is no word if Kia will launch the Stonic in India. It could rival the likes of the Maruti S-Cross and even some higher trims of the Mahindra XUV 300 and Ford EcoSport. Kia is currently working on the production version of the Sonet concept, which will be Kia’s answer to the aforementioned cars.
