The Kia SP2i has been undergoing test rounds, will be launched by August 2019.
Kia Motors India had showcased their SP Concept SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Korean car manufacturer has plans to introduce the SUV in India very soon and it is most likely to be called Kia Tusker. A test mule of the Kia SP2i has been recently spotted by MotorBeam reader Ankush.
The Kia SP2i will rival the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur upon its launch in India. The SUV is slated to be launched in the second half of 2019. Just like the Creta, even this vehicle is expected to come with a long equipment list and a host of features including new connectivity features.
The test mule spotted is covered with black cladding but some details are noticeable. The spy shots reveal that the SUV will get split LED headlamps as well as DRLs. The wheels on the test vehicle are steel rims which suggest that this is the base or mid variant. The SUV will get all 4 discs on the top variant but the lower variants might get drums at the rear. Additionally, the test vehicle also seems to have roof rails. The overall styling of the vehicle remains close to the SP concept that has been showcased earlier.
The Kia SP2i will be powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options. The engines are also likely to be BS6 compliant. Transmission duties are likely to be done by 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
The Kia SP2i’s platform is likely to underpin the next-generation Hyundai Creta, which could be a 7-seater offering. The Creta might also borrow its powertrains from the Kia as the BS6 norms are coming closer. The SP2i upon its launch will battle with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster.
