Kia India has launched the Sonet compact SUV with a starting price tag of Rs. 6.71 lakhs for the base petrol variant, with the figure topping at Rs. 11.99 lakhs for top petrol and diesel versions (both prices are ex-showroom). GTX+ petrol DCT and diesel AT price to be announced later.
Only the third model for the Korean manufacturer to be launched in the Indian market, the compact SUV shares many of its components with the Hyundai Venue.
Much has been said about the car’s looks ever since it got unveiled last month. Thus, let us skip to the features and the vehicle comes with loads of them, like the 10.25-inch touchscreen, 4.2-inch MID, AI voice command, ventilated front seats, LED sound mood lighting, BOSE premium 7-speaker audio system and OTA map updates.
Multi-drive and traction modes, 57 UVO connected car features, a whole host of safety kit, including six airbags, ABS, EBD, HSA, ESC, VSM, Brake Assist, TPMS, among others are also offered with the car.
All the above mentioned features will be provided on the top variant, with the list getting diluted by a bit as we move down the trim ladder. In all, people who are willing to pay the price Kia asks for the Sonet will be able to choose from six variants.
Further, Kia Sonet price also gets customers a couple of trim selections, namely – Tech Line and GT-Line, and they come with trim-specific changes both on the outside and inside.
There are many options to choose from when it comes to the powertrain as well. Two petrol engines – a Smartstream 1.2-litre 4-cylinder and a 1.0-litre T-GDi unit are joined by 1.5-litre CRDi diesel units with VGT and WGT.
Transmission options are aplenty and it includes 5- and 6-speed manuals, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DCT, depending upon the trim level and engine option chosen.
Fuel economy figures have also been released. Kia Sonet returns 18.2 km/l for the 1.0-litre T-GDI (6-speed iMT), 18.4 km/l for the Smartstream 1.2-litre petrol (5-speed MT), 19 km/l for the 1.5-litre VGT diesel AT and 24.1 km/l for the WGT diesel with 6-speed MT.
India is the first market to receive the Sonet, but Kia has stated that will export the Sonet to over 70 nations soon. Deliveries of the compact SUV start from today.
Rivals for the car are the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Ford EcoSport.
