UPDATE – Kia Motors has sent us an official statement on this – “At Kia Motors, there is a regular practice of upgrading the product. On the feedback received from customers and various sources, necessary improvements are done keeping customers in mind. For vehicles already on road, a communication / guideline is released to the dealers giving details of the inspection process and repairs to be carried out. The recent communication, involves inspection of fuel pump & in-case of any observation dealer is required to carry out repair / replacement as the case may be. There is no recall which is announced, it is basically a Service Action Campaign being done on the Kia cars to ensure that our customers do not face any inconvenience.“
Kia Motors is said to have issued a recall for diesel variants of the Seltos to replace the fuel pump, found to be faulty, used in them.
A service campaign has been initiated to inspect, and if necessary replace, the fuel pump of all diesel Seltos models manufactured between 1st October 2019 and 13th March 2020.
While the exact number of units that will be recalled is not known at the moment, what is known is that the faulty fuel pump could have developed a small hole at the bottom and a crack could have developed in the fuel pump assembly.
This could make the car vibrate, reduce its pickup and could lead to it not starting in the most extreme possible cases, states the service bulletin issued by Kia.
Owners of the Kia Seltos diesel models will have to get their car’s checked at authorised service stations and if no damage is found, the fuel pump will not have to be replaced.
If the fuel pump has been found to be faulty, it would be covered under warranty and thus will be replaced at no cost to the car owner.
So far, the South Korean firm has not issued a statement on the matter, but a communication is expected to arrive soon.
Powering the midsize SUV’s diesel variants, covered under Kia Seltos recall, is a 1.5-litre mill that puts out 115 PS at 4000 RPM and 250 Nm at 1500-2750 RPM. It comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
