Kia is exploring a second plant in India to expand production capacity.
Kia Motors has been an instant hit in the Indian market right from their entry with the Seltos. Even the premium MPV Carnival is doing well in its own segment.
The South Korean carmaker has crossed 84,903 unit sales in just eight months. With their new products currently being planned, they expect to reach full capacity with their current plant in 2022.
Kia Motors’ Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh has an annual production capacity of 3,00,000 units. With the launch of the new Kia Sonet compact SUV and Ertiga rivalling MPV next year, they need a new manufacturing plant.
Kia expects the Sonet to sell like hot cakes in India. Our country will be the sole production hub of Sonet that will be exported to other countries from India.
The second plant is likely to be set up in Maharashtra. In current situations, it is wise to have plants in different states. Maharashtra also has a well-established component supplier base and also a port in Mumbai for experts.
