Kia Made-for-India SUV teased, to rival cousin Hyundai Creta.
Kia has been in the news ever since it announced its entry into the Indian car market. There have been various speculations as to what car will roll out first from its acquired facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and the automaker has revealed just that. The company has teased the images of the SP Concept, an SUV made for the Indian market and claims that the SP Concept will be inspired by Indian heritage.
The teaser images reveal the sharp waistline, slightly sloping roofline and flared wheel arches. The production version of the SUV will feature all-LED lighting and a contrast roof. The SUV will be made at the carmaker’s manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh and the concept will make its world debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The vehicle will go into production in 2019 and is likely to go on sale the same year as well.
A rival to the Hyundai Creta, the Kia SP Concept is likely to be based on the new platform that will also underpin the all-new Creta that is due in 2020. Powertrain options could include the new 1.5-litre BS6 compliant diesel engine which will also power the all-new Creta along with the 1.6-litre petrol motor, which could be offered with some form of electrification. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes, also shared with the Creta. The company could offer the production version of the SP Concept in five-seater and seven-seater configurations.
