Kia EV9 has been introduced in India as a completely built unit
Kia EV9 electric SUV launched in India at a price of Rs. 1.3 crores (ex-showroom). The EV9, available exclusively in the fully loaded GT-Line variant, is now the most expensive Kia vehicle in the country, positioned above the EV6 in the brand’s lineup. It is being imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
Design and Dimensions
The Kia EV9 boasts a bold exterior with vertical LED headlamps, L-shaped DRLs and a closed-off grille featuring integrated digital-pattern lighting. At the rear, the SUV sports vertical LED tail-lamps, a clean tailgate, a roof spoiler and a dual-tone bumper with a skid plate. Measuring 5015 mm in length, 1980 mm in width and 1780 mm in height and a wheelbase of 3100 mm.
Interior Features and Comfort
Inside, the EV9 offers a tech-focused, spacious cabin with a dual-screen display. This includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment and an equally sized digital instrument cluster. The SUV also features a four-spoke steering wheel, storage space under the centre console and physical controls beneath the AC vents for added convenience. The interior comes in a dual-tone Brown and Black colour scheme, adding a premium touch.
The EV9 has a 6-seater layout, with second-row captain’s chairs that include electric adjustments, massage functionality and leg support. Additional features include three-zone climate control, dual-electric sunroofs, a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, a head-up display, a digital inside rear-view mirror and Kia Connect, offering a range of connected-car services.
Safety and Technology
Safety is a key focus in the EV9, with the SUV equipped with 10 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill descent control, and all-wheel disc brakes. The 360-degree camera and front, side and rear parking sensors add to its safety package. The vehicle also comes with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist.
Performance and Range
The India-spec EV9 comes with a 99.8kWh battery that powers two electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. These motors produce a combined output of 384 HP and 700 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 5.3 seconds. Kia claims an ARAI-certified range of 561 km on a full charge. The EV9 supports 350kW DC fast charging, capable of recharging the battery from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.
Competitors and Availability
Although the EV9 doesn’t have direct rivals in India, it faces competition from luxury electric SUVs like the Mercedes EQS and EQE SUVs, BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron. The EV9 is also available on a lease plan, offering an alternative ownership model for prospective buyers.
