Kia India recalls 1380 EV6 units for a battery software update
Kia India has announced another voluntary recall for its flagship electric crossover, the EV6, to address an issue related to its battery management system. This recall affects 1380 units produced between 3rd March, 2022 and 14th April, 2023, with the company aiming to enhance the performance and reliability of the 12V auxiliary battery through a software update in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU).
Focus on Auxiliary Battery Performance
The ICCU update is intended to improve the charging system for the 12V battery, which powers essential vehicle functions such as lighting, windshield wipers, and the infotainment system. While the high-voltage battery drives the EV6, the auxiliary battery plays a crucial role in supporting day-to-day operations inside the vehicle.
This is not the first time Kia has recalled the EV6 for such an issue. In July 2024, the company recalled 1138 units for a similar ICCU-related concern, which could potentially impact the auxiliary battery’s performance. The Hyundai IONIQ 5, which shares its platform with the EV6, also faced a recall last year for the same reason.
What Should Owners Do?
Kia has confirmed that it will proactively contact affected customers to facilitate the software update. Owners can also reach out to their nearest authorised Kia dealership to schedule an appointment for the update. The service will be carried out free of charge.
For further assistance, Kia has provided a toll-free helpline at 1800-108-5005. The company has also informed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) about the recall as part of its commitment to transparency and customer safety.
EV6 Facelift Launch Imminent
Meanwhile, Kia is gearing up to launch the facelifted version of the EV6 in India. First showcased at the Auto Expo 2025, the updated model features refreshed styling, upgraded technology, and mechanical improvements. Bookings for the facelifted EV6 have been open for over a month, although the official launch date is yet to be confirmed.
With this recall, Kia reiterates its focus on ensuring a seamless ownership experience for its EV customers while preparing to introduce the latest iteration of its flagship electric vehicle in the Indian market.
