The Kia EV6 India launch is likely to take place by June
Kia India is poised to launch its pure-electric EV6 in the market here by June, if reports about the crossover are to be believed. This development comes closely after the Korean firm obtained the trademark for the electric vehicle (EV)’s moniker in India.
To be brought in and sold as a completely built-up unit (CBU), the EV6 will be Kia’s first full electric model for the Indian market. It will be joined by the e-Niro and a more affordable electric SUV in the future.
Based on the Hyundai Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV6 is packed to the rafters with new age technology and features including LED lighting units, digital screens (there are 2 12.3-inch displays), augmented reality head up display, smartphone connectivity and several safety goodies including ADAS.
Upon launch, the Kia EV6 is likely to be offered in 4 variants namely – Air, Earth, Light and Water. In the global arena, the electric crossover comes with the options of a 58 kWh battery and a 77.4 kWh pack.
Kia is expected to launch the EV6 in India with the larger battery and a single motor (likely making 168 kW or 225 BHP and 350 Nm) that drives the rear wheels, the ideal setup for long range between each charge.
This particular variant will come with a claimed range of 528 km in the combined cycle or 739 km in the city. It will have a top speed of 183 km/hr and do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 7.3 seconds.
Other variants, including the all-wheel drive ones, might be offered, but speculations can be put to rest only if Kia India makes an official statement about the India launch of the EV6.
