Kia will launch the Carnival in India in 2020, will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta.
Toyota Innova Crysta rival, the Kia Carnival MPV is set to enter the Indian market as early as next year. The Carnival is likely to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo with a few configurations made for the Indian market. The MPV will be South Korean automaker Kia’s second car in the country after Seltos SUV.
In terms of size and stature, the Kia Carnival at a length of 5115 mm, breadth of 1985 mm and height of 1740 mm will be 380 mm longer and 155 mm wider than the Innova Crysta slotting it a segment above the latter. Even the wheelbase at 3060 mm is 310 mm more than the Toyota. A refreshing change from Innova’s rear-wheel-drive, the Carnival will be built on a front-wheel-mechanism.
It’s expected to bear a low slung profile and electric sliding doors will ease ingress and egress from the vehicle. Gear up to sit a little low due to the profile and a lot of legroom with extendable leg rests due to the stretched out length of the vehicle. Expect two 10.1-inch screens at the rear and a large touchscreen infotainment with Kia’s UVO car connectivity system. Power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, two sunroofs, three-zone climate control and a plethora of safety features will also be offered.
The Kia Carnival MPV is expected to have a spacious three-row seating arrangement without affecting the luggage space in the car. Some variants might have a motorised third row. The India-bound Carnival will run on a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine producing 202 HP and 441 Nm of peak torque. While a 6-speed manual gearbox will be on offer, a 6-speed automatic is likely to follow suit.
The Kia Carnival will be tagged around Rs. 23-26 lakhs despite being partly assembled in India. The engine will be imported as a fully built unit. Along with Kia Carnival, the Tata Buzzard (7-seater Harrier), Mahindra Marazzo W10 and MG Hector 7-seater will rival the hot-selling Toyota Innova Crysta in the next one year.
