Kia Carnival discontinued in India, not announced officially yet
Kia Motors have discontinued the Carnival in the Indian market. While the carmaker has not announced the discontinuation officially, the dealers have stopped taking bookings of the MPV.
The Carnival was launched in India in February 2020. It came with a starting price of Rs. 24.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). The MPV was available in three variants and multiple seating configurations.
It was a unique car in its segment considering the fact that it was more spacious and big than the Toyota Innova. Bigger MPVs than Carnival available in the Indian market included the Toyota Vellfire and Mercedes V-Class, both of these retail for upwards of Rs. 1 crores (ex-showroom). So the overall positioning of the Carnival was in the sweet spot.
It was powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 200 PS at 3800 RPM and 440 Nm of torque at 1500-2750 RPM. The engine was paired to a 8-speed automatic transmission.
Seems like Kia didn’t update the Carnival to comply with the BS6 phase 2 norms. No dealership is accepting the bookings of the same. Existing stock of the car is being sold at a premium.
There is no official word on the new generation Carnival yet. The carmaker showcased it as a concept vehicle at the 2023 Auto Expo. We believe it won’t be offered in India before 2024.
