New gen Kia Carnival bookings open at dealer level ahead of October launch

Kia India is gearing up to launch the new Carnival, with official bookings set to commence later this month. However, some dealerships have already begun accepting unofficial bookings, signalling strong anticipation for the premium MPV, which is set to go on sale on 3rd October.

Initial Launch as a Full Import

The upcoming Carnival will initially be sold as a fully imported unit, with local assembly expected to follow. This approach is typical for automakers introducing new models in the market, allowing them to gauge demand before committing to local production.

Single Fully Loaded Variant

At launch, the Kia Carnival will be offered in a single, fully loaded variant, reflecting the brand’s strategy to position it as a premium offering in India. While detailed specifications are yet to be revealed, the vehicle is expected to come equipped with a host of high-end features. These include dual 12.3-inch displays, front and rear dash cameras, head-up display, digital rear-view mirror, updated digital key with fingerprint recognition and ambient lighting along the dashboard.

Powertrain and Pricing

Under the hood, the Indian-spec Carnival is expected to feature a 2.2-litre diesel engine, continuing the powertrain lineage from the previous generation. Internationally, the Carnival is also offered with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol hybrid and a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, though these options are unlikely to be available in the Indian market at launch.

Pricing for the fully imported Carnival is anticipated to start around Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom). This positions it in a unique spot within the Indian market, where it will have no direct competitors. The Toyota Innova Hycross, a popular MPV, is priced up to Rs. 30 lakhs, while the more luxurious Toyota Vellfire starts at Rs. 1.22 crores (ex-showroom).

Booking and Delivery Details

Dealerships currently handling bookings have set the amount at Rs. 1 lakh, which is fully refundable. As for the exterior, customers can expect a choice of two or three colours, with white and black among the expected options.

In addition to the Carnival, Kia is also preparing to announce the pricing for its EV9 full-size electric SUV, further expanding its portfolio in India. As the official launch date approaches, more details regarding the Carnival’s specifications and pricing are expected to emerge, setting the stage for what could be one of the most anticipated MPV launches of the year.
