Kia Carens variants rejigged with diesel MT trims and more features


Kia Carens variants updated for the 2024 model year. This release marks a significant expansion in the Carens lineup, now boasting a total of 30 variants. Among the noteworthy updates is the introduction of a new diesel manual powertrain option, adding to the existing range of powertrain choices.

The expanded variant lineup includes the Premium (O), Prestige (O) and Prestige+ (O) trims, each offering distinct features catering to varying consumer preferences. Enhancements across these variants include keyless entry, new infotainment system and enhanced safety features like burglar alarms.

Additionally, Kia has introduced a new paint scheme for the Carens – Pewter Olive, which is available across all variants, except the X-Line trim. This addition provides customers with a choice of 8 monotone, 3 dual-tone options and  1 exclusive colour for X-Line.

All models now come equipped with a 180W charger, an upgrade from the previous 120W charger.

Notably, the range-topping X-Line trim has received significant updates, now featuring a dashcam, all windows auto up and down function with voice command. Furthermore, customers can opt for a 7-seat configuration with this trim, expanding its versatility.

In terms of powertrains, the Kia Carens offers a choice between three engine options – a 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel variant now comes with the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox, a clutchless manual (iMT) or a torque converter automatic transmission. The turbo petrol variants are available with either a 6-speed iMT or an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. NA petrol engine only gets 6-speed manual option.

With regards to pricing, the Kia Carens now starts at a base price of Rs. 10.52 lakhs, with the range-topping variant priced at Rs. 19.67 lakhs (ex-showroom). It competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Rumion while also facing competition from Hyundai Alcazar, Toyota Innova, etc.
