While the unveil of the Kia Carens has taken place, its market launch will happen soon too
The official unveil of the Kia Carens has taken place today. The Korean carmaker says its fourth product for the Indian market will cater to modern families.
Featuring Kia’s “Opposites United” design language, the people carrier has a bold ‘face’ which gives the car its own identity.
The LED DRLs and headlights are split by a chrome trim and small grille, while the lower air intake also comes with generous chrome garnish.
Along the sides, the Carens looks like a proper SUV with a long body and thick cladding for the wheel arches. Kia has made good use of chrome on the window line and for the door handles.
The Carens rides on alloy wheels featuring 2-tone treatment and also sports roof rails and comes with a sharp styling at the rear, just like up front.
Here, there are split LED tail lamps, a sizeable windscreen with a wiper, a roof spoiler with a third brake light and boot lid that is in no way bland and a thick applique of chrome on the bumper.
Kia says 3 new exterior colours have been created for its newest offering for India, and they are Imperial Blue, Moss Brown and Sparkling Silver. The other paint options are yet to be revealed.
Inside, the car will come in 6- or 7-seater layouts and with an indigo and light beige cabin theme. Kia has equipped the car’s interior with plentiful storage spaces and touches like pop out cup holders, under-seat trays, seat back trays for the second row occupants, 5 USB type-C ports and electric double folding second row seats.
The Carens, like any Kia car, will be packed to the rafters with features. Some of the goodies the 3-row car will come with are ambient lighting, puddle lamps for the rear doors, digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, 8-speaker BOSE sound system, connected car technology, electric sunroof, 3 drive modes, paddle shifters, among several others.
Although Kia did not delve too much into the specifications of the car, the brand did say that it will come with a turbocharged petrol (should be the 140 PS, 242 Nm, 1.4-litre unit) engine mated to a 7-speed DCT and a diesel motor (will be the 115 PS and 250 Nm, 1.5-litre block) teamed to an automatic transmission.
Moreover, at the Kia Carens unveil, it was revealed that the vehicle will come with plentiful standard safety features such as disc brakes on all corners, 6 airbags, ESC, VSC, DBC, HAC, and finally TPMS.
Expect the car to be launched in the final quarter, by February, of this financial year (FY22). It will be manufactured at Kia India’s facility at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.
