Kia is expected to introduce the Carens about a month after its bookings commence
Kia will begin accepting customer bookings for the Carens from 14th January, 2022. The vehicle is expected to be introduced to the market in February next year.
Exclusively manufactured in India, the Carens will be the Korean firm’s fourth product for the market here and is billed not as an SUV, but a ‘recreational vehicle’.
Unveiled earlier this month, the MPV with SUV-esque styling comes with a bold exterior styling. The car will have split LED front lights, wide lower air intake (up front), roof rails, alloy wheels and tail lamps with a rather crisp design.
Of course, Kia has fitted lots of chrome bits on the car’s exterior and the ubiquitous body cladding makes its appearance on the Carens as well.
Inside, the Carens comes with a dual tone dashboard, premium cabin with tonnes of goodies like a digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, electric double folding second row seats, electric sunroof, connected car tech and so on.
Customers will be offered both 6- and 7-seat configurations, and plentiful safety features as standard. Since the Carens is based on the Seltos, it will come with the same set of powertrains as the compact SUV.
Thus a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor (115 PS and 144 Nm), a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (140 PS and 242 Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbodiesel (115 PS and 250 Nm) will be on offer.
The transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox which is the mainstay. The turbo-petrol mill also gets a 7-speed DCT, while the diesel motor can be had with a 6-speed torque converter auto.
